This is Penlee House , otherwise Penzance Museum and Art Gallery, the old main entrance, which I have walked through thousands of times. As to why it is important at this time, I have to reply that it is of supreme importance at any time of any year, although slightly up-market these days.
I agree entirely about the up market all too distant from its original purpose (after being a house); I am going to give you the points in any case, as I am in a generous mood despite the horrible weather and greyness. The whole place was purchased for the town as a War Memorial; so many gave their lives, including men and women from Penzance; they died and others lost their wives, friends, children, husbands and parents. We would not be here today and living the lives we are, if it were not for these good and brave people. Some were but 15 years of age; on top of all of that, our Royal Navy, and our Country could not have provided the service they did, if it were not for the tankers and supply ships that travelled the globe crossing violent and dangerous seas. We owe so much to them all.
